Danger Doom EP Occult Hymn on Adult Swim

As stated earlier, Adult Swim has been posting tracks from the new Danger Doom EP. Originally, they were supposed to be posting tracks from May 15th until today, however, they only posted two tracks. Today, they have posted the entire collection titled Occult Hymn available as separate downloads or as a .zip file with the tracks and skits as well as a .zip file of the artwork. Get it while it’s hot!

Danger Doom EP Track “Korndogs” Posted on Adult Swim

You might have seen the post on Pitchfork a bit ago announcing the collaboration between Danger Doom and Adult Swim. It seems that Adult Swim will be posting an as-yet-untitled free-for-the download nine-track EP. The first track was posted today titled “Korndogs” and the rest of the tracks will follow until May 30th. I’ll keep checking for tracks and post here when new ones arrive.

Canadian Musicians form Coalition to fight DRM

Slashdot reports today that some Canadian musicians have joined to form the Canadian Music Creator Coalition which is speaking out for artists as it applies to the laws and policies that affect them. They feel that the record labels and legislators are representing their own interests and is not necessarily the artists’. Their three tenants are opposing the suing of fans under the Copyright Act, abolition of copy protection or digital locks, and the more localized interest of making sure that government funding of artists in Canada supports Canadian artists. The CMCC includes artists like Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan, Sum 41, and Broken Social Scene among others. Of course, the thing that everyone is latching on to with the CMCC is their implied stance on downloading music.

Love Monkey Finds New Life on VH1

As noted earlier CBS cancelled the show Love Monkey after only three episodes. VH1 has picked up the show [note: this link seems to work best with IE]– at least the eight episodes that were taped. No additional episodes have been ordered. Evidently, there was discussion of moving this show to UPN that yielded no results. The first of the un-aired episodes will show Tuesday night. So, for the next five weeks at least, I’ve got a new show to watch! This Tuesday night’s show is the one with Aimee Mann.

Get Your Claim from Sony Rootkit Settlement

From Slashdot: The settlement process has begun from the class action suit brought on to Sony by the EFF. If you purchased any of the CD’s from Sony that have the flawed digital rights management, you have until the end of 2006 to file a claim. Depending on which of the two rootkit DRM’s you have in your posession, you could be due a replacement of your CD sans DRM software, a digital download of your CD in question, AND you could receive a cash payment of $7.50 and 1 free download from a number of places including iTunes or three free album downloads from the same places. It is important that people take Sony/BMG up on this! In these kinds of settlements, the company in question counts on the fact that people won’t go through the process to get their claim. We consumers need to send a clear message that this kind of irresponsibility is not and will not be tolerated!

I only have one CD from the lists, which is Trey Anastasio’s new album Shine. I have already ripped the CD using cdparanoia on Linux, so I have a DRM-safe copy. So, I will be sending mine in.

Ryan Adams Fans Face Jail Time for Leaking mp3’s

Rob at The Great Leap Forward has an entry from Pitchfork on a couple of Ryan Adam’s fans who leaked Jacksonville City Nights tracks before the album came out. Unfortunately, they face some hard time for this under the new Family Entertainment and Copyright Act. Watch where you put your mp3’s, kids! Posting mp3’s on websites is really stupid, especially if they aren’t released, yet!

Love Monkey ‘On Hiatus’

While I was cruising around The Paste website I noticed in their News scroller at the top that CBS’s Love Monkey was put ‘on hiatus” after three episodes! This is old news, I guess. I’m pretty bummed about it as I enjoyed the show. But, evidently over 1 million viewers didn’t enjoy it enough to watch it the next week. Adding insult to injury a rerun of “Law and Order: SVU” drew more viewers! Aimee Mann was supposed to be on an upcoming episode. I wonder how many episodes they taped? Maybe they’ll release a box set of the first season, like Firefly.
